EverStonepoint started with two travellers, one ageing tow-rig and a notebook full of camps nobody had bothered to write down properly. We're still doing exactly that — just with more red dust on the bumper.

How it began

A glovebox notebook that got out of hand

In the autumn of 2019 we pulled out of a driveway in Bendigo meaning to be gone six weeks. We came home eight months later, having scribbled down every dump point, every riverside reserve and every dodgy phone-signal town between the Murray and the Top End.

Friends kept asking for the notebook. Then friends of friends. It turned out the honest, unglamorous detail we'd been keeping for ourselves — whether a camp suits a big rig, where the corrugations start, which "free" camp is actually worth the detour — was exactly what nobody else was publishing. So we published it.

Seven years on, EverStonepoint is still independent and still owned by the people who write it. No media group, no investor with a spreadsheet, no algorithm choosing your next camp. Just travellers who'd rather get it right than get it first.

What we stand for

Three things we won't compromise on

Everything we publish has to clear these three bars. If it can't, it doesn't go up.

Honest before flattering

If a celebrated camp is overrun, noisy or wrong for a caravan, we say so. Our loyalty is to the traveller reading the page, never to the place on it.

Lived, not lifted

We don't repackage press releases. Every route is one we've towed, every camp is one we've slept at, every gripe is one we've actually had at 2am in the rain.

Plain and useful

Tyre pressures, length limits, fuel gaps, water access. We'd rather be the boring page that gets you there safely than the pretty one that doesn't.

How we test & verify

We drive the routes and stay at the camps

There's no shortcut for this part, and we don't pretend there is.

  • Every route is driven end to end with a real touring set-up, not a hire hatchback.
  • We pull up at the camp, set the awning and stay the night before it earns a listing.
  • Gear is run for a full season across the conditions you'd actually use it in.
  • Reader reports are cross-checked against our own notes before anything changes.

Things move. Tracks wash out, fees change, free camps get closed or bumped to fees. Every listing carries the month we last verified it, and we revisit the busy ones each season.

Where the money comes from

We'd rather you knew exactly how this place pays for itself, because that's the whole point of independence.

  • Listings and rankings are never for sale. A camp can't pay to appear or rank higher.
  • Where a gear link earns us a small commission, it's marked plainly — and never changes the verdict.
  • Sponsored pieces, on the rare occasion we run them, are labelled at the top. No surprises.
  • Get something wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it, fast, and note the correction.
